✓ Each member of the SwapTheRoad community must own a recreational vehicle when registering
✓ The principle of vehicle exchange is above all based on a relationship of respect, trust and sharing between community members
✓ SwapTheRoad was co-constructed by the community itself, which is a testament to the collaborative mindset that each member must demonstrate
✓ All members, whatever their subscription formula, can carry out reciprocal and/or non-reciprocal exchanges. These two types of exchanges are regulated by the RoadPoints system in force
✓ In the case of a reciprocal exchange where members decide to disregard the possible difference in points at the time of exchange (price in RP/day of the vehicles and/or duration of their trips), there can be no monetary compensation between community members. Members are invited to modify the value of their vehicle (price in RP/day) before the validation of their exchange
✓ I agree to communicate regularly with the member with whom I am about to exchange (before, during and, if necessary, after the exchange)
✓ I agree to be attentive to the proper use of the vehicle and all of its equipment
✓ I agree to respect the rules of use and circulation of the country in which I travel
✓ I agree to report any malfunction of the vehicle I am borrowing to its owner
✓ I agree to return the vehicle loaned to me, directly to the owner’s home and with the same amount of fuel as when I took possession of it (a full tank avoids any ambiguity)
✓ I agree to use the VR loaned to me by its owner as if I owned the vehicle
✓ I agree to be present and to participate in an inventory of fixtures of the vehicle, at the beginning and at the end of the stay
✓ I agree to determine with the owner of the vehicle and especially to respect the number of kilometers (or miles) that it will be possible for me to travel during my trip
✓ I agree to abide by the lender’s border crossing instructions with my vehicle
✓ In the event of an at-fault accident, I agree to pay for repairs if the cost of the repairs is less than the amount of the owner’s insurance deductible. If the cost of the repairs is higher than the amount of the insurance deductible, I undertake to pay the owner the full amount of the insurance deductible
✓ I agree to communicate regularly with the member with whom I am about to exchange (before, during and, if necessary, after the exchange)
✓ I agree to ensure at all times that there are no misunderstandings between the borrower and myself. To avoid any risk of improvisation, I commit myself not to wait until the last minute to clarify my expectations. Exchanging via SwapTheRoad messaging or by phone in advance allows you to quickly review all the details of an exchange
✓ I agree to pick up the borrower and his family upon their arrival at the airport that the latter will have defined beforehand, and to drive them there at the end of their trip
✓ I agree to welcoming the borrower and his family in the same way I would like to be welcomed if the roles were reversed… Small tokens of attention to make them feel welcome are often the foundation for establishing a solid relationship of trust (see friendship)
✓ I agree to provide a detailed list of the equipment and accessories present in my vehicle
✓ I agree to devote a minimum of 1 hour to the presentation of how my vehicle works: this allows the borrower to familiarize himself with my vehicle, to “take it in hand” for safer driving during his trip
✓ I agree to provide an instruction manual for my vehicle and its equipment (RoadBook or other format)
✓ I agree to provide the borrower with as much information as possible for the preparation of his or her trip: places to visit according to his or her interests, bivouac coordinates, road conditions…
✓ I agree to leave my contact information or that of an available person for the duration of the borrower’s trip
✓ I agree that the insurance contract of my vehicle accepts that a foreign third party driver can drive my vehicle (if I am asked to pay an additional fee, this additional fee will be paid by me) & I also undertake to check that my insurance covers the risks in case of a free loan to a foreign third party driver
✓ I agree to be financially responsible for any mechanical repairs to the engine and its regular maintenance (e.g., oil change)
✓ I agree to be financially responsible for any repairs related to the normal wear and tear of my vehicle (e.g. refrigerator breakdown)
✓ I agree to lend my vehicle with a minimum amount of fuel (ideally a full tank)
✓ I agree to lend with my vehicle all the accessories present inside it (kitchen utensils, comforters, sheets, towels …)
✓ I agree to realize with the borrower an inventory of fixtures of my vehicle, at the beginning and at the end of the stay
✓ I agree to indicate to the borrower the number of kilometers (or miles) that he or she may travel during the trip
✓ I agree to inform the borrower if it is possible to travel to another country with my vehicle
